I Loved Driving in Scotland So Much, I Went Back to Drive the North Coast 500

And so, my love affair with driving in Scotland continued to grow stronger. The stunning landscapes, winding roads, and sense of freedom I experienced while exploring the country by car left a lasting impression on me. After my first trip to Scotland, I knew I had to return to experience even more of its beauty. That’s when I discovered the North Coast 500, a scenic driving route that takes you on a journey through the rugged northern Highlands of Scotland.

The North Coast 500 is a 516-mile long route that starts and ends in Inverness, taking drivers on a circular journey through some of the most breathtaking landscapes Scotland has to offer. From rugged coastlines to majestic mountains, the NC500 has it all. It has been dubbed Scotland’s answer to Route 66, and after driving it myself, I can see why.

I set off on my NC500 adventure from Inverness, the starting point of the route. As I made my way along the winding roads, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. The lush greenery, towering mountains, and crystal-clear lochs made for a picture-perfect backdrop as I drove through the countryside.

One of the highlights of my journey was driving along the rugged coastline of the North Highlands. The dramatic cliffs, crashing waves, and secluded beaches were simply breathtaking. I made sure to stop frequently along the route to take in the stunning views and snap some photos to remember the experience.

As I continued on my journey, I passed through charming villages, historic sites, and ancient castles that gave me a glimpse into Scotland’s rich history and culture. I also had the opportunity to taste some of the local cuisine, including fresh seafood and traditional Scottish dishes, which only added to my love for the country.

Driving the NC500 allowed me to truly immerse myself in the beauty of Scotland. Each day brought new discoveries and adventures, from hiking in the mountains to visiting historic distilleries and quaint villages. The freedom of having my own car allowed me to explore at my own pace and see parts of the country that are often overlooked by tourists.

As I completed the NC500 and returned to Inverness, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience such a stunning part of the world. The North Coast 500 had exceeded all of my expectations and left me with memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. It’s safe to say that my love for driving in Scotland had only grown stronger, and I knew that I would be back to explore more of this beautiful country in the future. Scotland had truly captured my heart, and I couldn’t wait to see where the road would take me next.
